Pinnacle Program
Across the country each year, more than 500 young leaders, ages 14 – 21, from low income and ethnically diverse urban communities benefit from Outward Bound programs with full scholarship support of more than $1.2 million. Pinnacle Scholars receive financial sponsorship, pre-course guidance and mentoring, post-course support, community service and leadership opportunities through the Pinnacle Program. We work with hundreds of partner organizations that encourage budding leaders who have social and economic disadvantages to overcome. Partners ensure that Pinnacle Scholars are supported in the community when they return from course, helping students to integrate their course learning into daily life, and striving to change their communities through service. Every Pinnacle Scholar participates in a 14 or 22-day Outward Bound course.
At the cornerstone of the Pinnacle Program are strong partnerships with youth-service and community-based organizations. Partners facilitate the selection of deserving, highly motivated students with proper physical and mental preparation. They mentor every Scholar, coordinate service work and help the student translate the experience with key family and community relationships. Youth development professionals within the partner organizations also participate in Outward Bound programs to enrich the base of understanding and process for the student.
